KandyMuseum

The Kandy Museum is housed in a building which was the abode of King Sri Vickrama Rajasinghe’s harem during the 19 th Century. It is a true masterpiece of traditional Kandyan architecture.

The museum houses religious, cultural, as well as historical artefacts dating from the early Kandyan Kingdom to the end of the British colonial era. It displays more than 5,000 artefacts such as jewellery, weapons and clothing. It even has a copy of the 1815 agreement that officially dissolved the monarchy of the Kandyan Kingdom and handed over the city to the British Crown.

The museum is located next to the Sri Dalada Maligawa, and is a great place to visit to learn about the illustrious past of Kandy.
