Diving in Pasikudah
The Pasikudah Bay area, along with greater Batticaloa, is known for being a scuba diver’s paradise. The most notable dive site in this area is the wreck of HMS Hermes.
HMS Hermes was just one of the three British aircraft carriers that served during the second world war. It was subsequently sunk off the coast of Batticaloa during the Easter Sunday Raid of 1942 while trying to repel the Japanese attack. This is probably the most famous wreck found in the waters of Sri Lanka. The site has a number of significant artefacts in addition to a wide array of marine life, including snapper, grouper, barracudas, tuna, crabs and nudibranchs.
